In recent years I have observed, that the trend toward casual, sporty clothing has swept across society. People are increasingly dressing down in workout gear, hoodies, and sneakers—even in settings that once called for more elegant, put-together looks. This trend, often linked to the idea of “sacred time”—where people prioritize comfort and self-care over appearance—raises some interesting questions. While there’s nothing wrong with comfort, are we sacrificing style and respect for social occasions? Whenever I am, luxury cruise ships, airports, airplanes, music halls, luxury hotels… I observe this… well let me say phenomenon.
One concern is that dressing exclusively for comfort can blur the line between personal time and public spaces. While relaxed clothing can be freeing, it risks undermining the sense of occasion that certain settings once inspired. The charm and care that used to be part of dressing up for an event or simply showing up polished in public seem to be fading, replaced by an almost utilitarian mindset.
Additionally, dressing with intention can boost confidence and show respect for oneself and others. By embracing “sacred time” to the extreme, we risk letting go of these values in favor of what’s easy. Ultimately, while it’s great to have options, perhaps we shouldn’t be so quick to trade elegance for pure convenience. A balance between comfort and style may be the key to bringing a sense of pride and creativity back into our daily lives. What is your opinion about this? xoxo Georgia.
